We Made a Mistake At The Dentist
We have learned from our mistakes thankfully. The first dentist visit many years ago may have had lasting effects. She still has tons of anxiety when we go. I am just glad we figured out a better way to do these appointments right away.

She Didn't Know The Apple Picking Rules

Visiting an apple orchard after 4 years was eventful. Brings back memories and we created some new ones along the way. We also quickly realized that we need to teach our daughter some apple picking tricks and etiquette. #autistic #parenting #appleorchard #outdooradventure

    Braylee and Griffin will be best friends one day. I can already imagine the young man he'll grow up to be. Perhaps he's going to be a nurse, special ed teacher, social worker or work with disabled people in some capacity. His mother and father should be proud.

    When my daughter was little it took about a dozen tries to get her first xrays done. She would have panic attacks. Eventually she forced herself and then realized it wasn't as bad as she thought. I think she was around 5 years old at the time. She just turned 23 today.

    You have an awesome dentist office! The fact that they are so willing to work with Braylee to make the experience as easy for her as possible just puts a big smile on my face. Many neurotypical individuals find going to the dentist to be very anxiety inducing; it must be so much more difficult for those on the autism spectrum. So glad this visit went well and hooray for no cavities!!

    I’ve done sedation dentisty before twice already and I definitely had some anxiety with it especially with the iv in my arm being put under and waking up in recovery they let me sleep and rest when they got me into recovery and when I woke up I had a popsicle and ginger ale and some nausea medicine so I wouldn’t throw up when I got home and all I did was get into my pjs climbed into bed and knocked out I was so tired and sore my body needed to decompress from everything

    What do you mean she is no longer welcome?

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily 6 годин тому

      Braylee needed a sensory break, we had to leave because the venue didn’t have a sensory room. When that happens we don’t feel welcome because that accommodation is not available for her.

  • @ekidd79
    @ekidd79 12 годин тому

    Learning how to cope in anxious situations is always relatable. I have started just telling the person I am interacting with when I am feeling overwhelmed or anxious and find it is always taken with understanding and patience, so I think we should normalize being able to talk about it more in public.... 9 time out of 10 the experience will be better P.S. ALL HAIL THE BUTT CHIN! 😂

    If I can ask here, about what size should a sensory room be to be effective for a few groups at a time? I've only been in one, very early in the morning in one terminal at a large airport. It was around 50 by 100 feet, but I wondered if extra large venues could have several sensory rooms if they don't need to be quite that size.

    • @TheWeeFamily
      @TheWeeFamily 6 годин тому

      I don’t think there is any one size. We have seen a verity of sensory rooms. The best one we have seen is at Target field. They have 2 private rooms and a larger more common area type room.

    No but not every place has the ability for a sensory room. It’s great that some places do. Cuz this would help a lot of people not only people with autism. But I have issues with sounds being like 50% louder to me than other people

    100% agree! There are some great advocates and organizations trying to make concerts/events more sensory friendly. I'm not sure how they work (if you suggest venues to them) but Kulture City is the biggest example I can think of. Pro tip from an usher: *sometimes* security will allow you to re-enter if you explain that it's medically necessary to step outside, especially if you're able to stay within their line of sight.

    I wish my mom let me do this as a kid. She did in a way but only on one area. I was muddy and messy allll my child hood. It kept me going and regulated for sure!!! Thank you for allowing her to be her. As an adult I have my own yard and I still find myself playing with worms in the dirt or digging random holes. 😅❤
